Linux and Your TV

So, after reading the article Is your tv running linux and watching a very boring and uneventful UFC 112, I thought to myself. auto body repair estimates . What impact does Linux really have outside of the DVR realm on TV.Then it dawned on me, can a TV really include that much more, and pretty much be a fully encompassed multi-media center. If so, how much longer will it take, for the firmware in my television to be able to play audio only, record TV / DVD without the need of mythtv (or other external DVR), and how long before the OS market (let it be Linux or Windows) take over the core of our televisoins and media market?
